AlUla Events Guide 2026: Maraya, Hegra and Desert Experience Planning

HHabiba AsgharJune 07, 2026

AlUla is easily the most jaw-dropping event destination in all of Saudi Arabia. Imagine hosting your event surrounded by 200,000-year-old sandstone mountains, ancient Nabataean cities, and the world-famous Maraya mirror building. There is simply nowhere else like it on Earth.

But planning an event here is not like booking a hotel ballroom. You need special permits, strong relationships with the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU), and serious logistical planning. This guide tells you everything you need to know.

1. Maraya Concert Hall: The Crown Jewel

Maraya (meaning 'mirror' in Arabic) is the world's largest mirrored building. It is a massive 9,740 sqm structure that perfectly reflects the stunning AlUla canyon around it. It has hosted legends like Andrea Bocelli, Lionel Richie, and Mariah Carey.

Capacity: 500 seated (concert) or 800 (cocktail reception)

Access: By invitation through the RCU only — you cannot just call and book it!

Best for: Private concerts, luxury product launches, and VIP dinners

Want to host a private event at Maraya? We can help! Contact us 9 to 12 months before your desired date so we can start the process with the RCU.

2. Hegra: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Event Setting

Hegra (also called Madain Salih) is Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is an ancient city with massive rock-cut tombs dating back over 2,000 years. The RCU allows very limited private events here, which makes hosting a dinner at Hegra one of the most exclusive and unforgettable experiences you can offer.

But there are strict rules! You cannot drive stakes into the ground, you must use silent generators, and the site must look exactly the same after your event as it did before. We have successfully done this for high-profile brand clients.

3. Desert Glamping and Outdoor Adventures

AlUla is also perfect for overnight glamping events. You can choose from established resorts like Habitas AlUla (96 rooms) or Banyan Tree AlUla (35 villas), or we can build a completely custom private camp for your group.

A typical glamping event includes a traditional Bedouin-style camp with modern luxuries, a private chef, live Ardah entertainment, incredible stargazing (AlUla has some of the darkest skies in the world!), and morning camel or falconry experiences.

Expert Tip

Best Time to Visit: AlUla's event season runs from October to March when the weather is perfect (15–25°C). Summer months go above 40°C, so outdoor events are not possible!

4. Getting Your RCU Permits

Every event in AlUla needs an RCU permit. Standard events take about 6 to 10 weeks to get approved. Heritage site events (like Hegra) take 12 to 20 weeks, so plan well ahead!

At Saudi Event Management, we have a preferred vendor relationship with the RCU which makes the entire process faster and smoother. Contact our AlUla specialist team to start planning your dream event in one of the most magical places on the planet!
